The Government of the City of Buenos Aires decided to prohibit River Plate from using the Centenario-Alta stand during their upcoming match against Banfield. This measure was taken as a consequence of the recent scandal, when flares were discovered in a restroom designated for people with disabilities during the match between River Plate and Atlético Mineiro in the Copa Libertadores.
In addition to the closure of the stand, other sanctions were imposed on the club. It was determined that River Plate must place a large banner in the closed stand to discourage the use of unauthorized pyrotechnics, and it was made clear that any other activities related to celebrations will not be approved. In the case of reoffending in illegal conduct, the penalties will be more severe.
The Government of the City communicated that, for the match against Banfield, the entrance of flags on sticks or celebration elements typically authorized by the Fans' Subcommittee will not be permitted. These measures aim to avoid situations similar to the recent one and ensure safety in the stadium.
Regarding the use of pyrotechnics, it was emphasized that the South American Football Confederation had already established a prohibition on their use, which motivated the decision of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires. With these actions, the aim is to prevent incidents and ensure a safe environment at sporting events.
